| 1. Plant spring-flowering bulbs; use bulb dust for disease control. |
| 2. Apply copper spray to selected fruit trees. |
| 3. Allow lettuce to go to seed and feed the birds this winter. |
| 4. Plant new lawns and patch existing, weather permitting. If it's still very dry and warm, wait until October. |
| 5. Lift and divide perennials that flowered from spring to early summer. |
| 6. Sow cover crop of rye etc. |
| 7. Cut down on watering to harden plants off for winter, unless very dry. Do not fertilize. |
| 8. Clean up those bird feeders and get them ready to go back into circulation to feed our feathered friends during winter. Watch for sales on bird seed. Hold off on cutting back perennials, which provide a source of food and shelter for birds and good bugs. |
| 9. Sow overwintering vegetables. |
| 10. Tropical plants that have been on the deck should come indoors for winter. Remember to keep them in quarantine until you're sure they are pest-free. Wipe off foliage and remove dead leaves and other debris from tops of soil. Make sure pots are free from spider webs, etc. always lift pots from saucers and clean saucers well before bringing indoors. |
